By
decorating fish tanks, you make them both more appealing to those outside
the tank and those within it (i.e. you and the fish). While you may
choose decorations that make the inside of the tank match the room outside
of it, you should also consider what the inhabitants of the tank may
prefer.
Here are a few things to be aware of when decorating fish tanks:
• Decorations are good for fish – with decorations, the
fish will likely be more active and even have improved colorations.
The items in the tank can make the fish feel more comfortable.
• Fish preferences – fish that normally live in slow moving
water will likely prefer soft cover, like plants and flexible items.
Fish that normally inhabit fast-moving water often prefer hard over,
like rocks and solid objects.
• Toxic? – be aware that some decorations could prove
to be toxic to the fish. Make sure that stones that you add are not
water soluble or soft enough to be chewed or rubbed off. Do not used
tiles that could contain soluble lead. When decorating fish tanks,
it is best to look for items that are designed specifically for use
in an aquarium.
