Is
it time that you replace your glass aquarium with an acrylic one? Well,
that depends. First of all, if you have been perfectly happy with your
glass aquarium and have no problems with it, do not replace it. There
is no need to fix something that doesn’t need fixing. If, on the
other hand, your glass fish tank is scratched or you are buying your
first tank, you may want to go with acrylic.
There are a few benefits that an acrylic aquarium potentially has
over a glass aquarium:
• Weight – glass weighs more than acrylic. And when a
glass aquarium is filled with the weight of water, it is easy to see
the benefits of choosing acrylic.
• Appearance – while glass has more clarity than acrylic
which can yellow and scratch, acrylic distorts sizes and shapes of
objects in water less.
• Flexibility – acrylic is flexible. It can be used to
make custom aquariums of all different shapes. Also, acrylic can be
molecularly molded whereas a glass aquarium requires a silicon seam.
